Leadplant (Amorpha canescens) has unique foliage and flowers with spikes of iridescent purple flowers extending above the intricate silver-gray foliage in the heat of midsummer. This stunning shrub is extremely drought tolerant and able to thrive in any well-drained soil. It is extremely long lived and is one of the few true shrubs of the prairie. Aside from its beauty it can attract butterflies and pollinators.
