This stunning shrub fills the summer air with its terriffc honey-vanilla scent. It is a vigorous, medium sized shrub that produces large yellow pea-like flowers in summer. They are held supported by flexible, erect, almost leafless, green broom-like stems and are followed by flat green seed pods. This cheerful shrub is tough and showy it thrives on neglect. It does extremely well in sunny sites and well drained soils. However, in several U.S. states (California, Hawaii, Oregon) it is a considered a noxious weed because of its prolific seed production and aggressive replacement of native plants.
